L’objectif de l’article n’est pas de faire l’apologie de la partition de Chypre, mais d’analyser son caractère inéluctable. Il met en exergue l’effet du découplage de l’adhésion et de la réunification par l’UE dans le rejet du plan de règlement onusien par les chypriotes grecs assurés de leur adhésion, malgré son plébiscite par les chypriotes turcs. Il revient sur les conséquences de cet énième échec de la communauté internationale qui s’assimile cependant comme l’ultime tentative. L’article envisage enfin les deux seules issues incontournables de la question finale de Chypre à savoir la consolidation du statut de Chypre Nord suivant le modèle de Taiwan, ou la partition définitive de l’Île d’Aphrodite en deux États indépendants.
The aim of the article is not to make the apology of the partition of Cyprus, but to analyze its inevitable character. It highlights the effect of the accession decoupling and the reunification by the EU in the rejection of the UN Annan plan by the Greek Cypriots ensured to adhere the EU, while it was approved by a large majority by the Turkish Cypriots. It returns on the consequences of this failure of the international community which however seemed to be the ultimate attempt. The article arrives at the conclusion that to settle the Cyprus case, there are only but two ways: the "taïwanization" of Northern Cyprus with the end of the economic embargo or the definitive partition of the Aphrodite Island into two States.
